Biography

Katherine (“Kat”) Wachter is a trial lawyer whose career has been focused on complex business litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Kat served the people of Pinellas County, Florida, for three years as an Assistant State Attorney and was named Pinellas County Prosecutor of the Year 2019 for her work prosecuting complex white-collar criminal cases involving issues such as fraud, racketeering, theft and embezzlement.

She brings her experience litigating in state and federal court to HSP’s commercial litigation team. Kat has substantial trial experience and was the lead prosecutor in numerous jury trials. She regularly analyzed defendants’ business practices, bank records and other financial records in order to successfully prosecute the case or negotiate favorable resolutions for the victims of financial crimes.

Before becoming an Assistant State Attorney, Kat began her legal career working as a judicial Staff Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County and then practiced civil litigation in Tampa, Florida. Kat is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and is awaiting admission to the State Bar of Michigan. She is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and the Collier County Bar Association.

Kat graduated from Stetson University College of Law in 2010 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Florida. Her past professional activities include the J. Clifford Cheatwood American Inn of Court and the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers.
